Magnificent Art Deco box depicting an elegant flapper holding a cigarette, in a stylized scrollwork setting with lines typical of the 1925-1930 period.
This box is unsigned but can be attributed to R. W. Coan, based on a known model by the manufacturer.
It combines a gilded ceramic structure with ivory applications forming the young woman's face and hand. The geometric black feet, probably made of bakelite or similar material, further enhance its resolutely Art Deco aesthetic.
The whole evokes the refined objects of early 20th century feminine boudoirs: jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, or hairdressing accessories.
The subtly nuanced golden patina and the reliefs delicately outlined in black give it a lot of character and depth.
