Charming small German porcelain bowl from Hutschenreuther, Bavaria. Vintage from the 1970s, it features a white and blue onion pattern. It has scalloped edges and is in perfect condition.
Hutschenreuther Porzellan – which most consumers simply call the "noble porcelain brand" – was a family empire founded in 1814, built on the knowledge and creativity of Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther (1794-1845). Son of Johann Heinrich Hutschenreuther, owner of the Thuringian porcelain manufactory Wallendorf in Lichte, he was immersed in the world of porcelain.
As early as 1814, he began producing a ceramic paste at Hohenberg Castle using raw materials he had extracted himself. In an application dated September 10, 1816, he requested permission to exploit alumina and feldspar. With this request, he laid the groundwork for the entire Franconian porcelain industry, particularly in Hohenberg, Mitterteich, Schirnding, Arzberg, and Weiden, thus playing a considerable role in the existence and development of the entire porcelain industry in Europe.
On November 7, 1822, Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther obtained a license to establish a porcelain factory. From then on, the name Hutschenreuther Porzellan – the lion brand – was considered the number 1 in German tableware porcelain for 177 years. In 1999, the company began to disintegrate, and since 2000, only the old name remains.
