Pretty pair of Nimy earthenware fruit bowls with small blue and white squares around the edge. They date from the first half of the 20th century.
On the back, appears the brand of the Manufacture Impériale et Royale de Nimy, Fabrication Belge, Made in Belgium, INNO.
Founded in 1789 in Nimy near Mons, the factory changed owners several times. In 1849, the earthenware factory was bought by the Mouzin – Lecat company. These pragmatic industrialists will restart production and make the name of Nimy known throughout the world. Building on their successive experiences, they took over the factories of Onnaing (France) in 1858 and Wasmuël in 1878. In 1898, the founding company was transformed into a limited company and experienced the beginning of its decline. The factory will survive the First World War, during which the occupiers will dismantle numerous Belgian factories to monopolize their production tools and avoid competition. From 1921, the Nimy factory was bought by the ceramic company of Maastricht (Netherlands) which closed the factory definitively in 1951 (source: Faïencerie de Nimy (museedenimy.blogspot.com) .
The 2 compote bowls are in good general condition: no cracks, 2 tiny chips in one (see photos) and 1 line of cooking defects in the other which do not detract from their charm.
It is rare to have an identical pair.
