Large fine earthenware dish ( (fine earthenware based on feldspar) with white and blue floral decoration from the Boch factory in La Louvière in Belgium.
The rich industrial past of La Louvière is largely characterized by the presence of the Boch earthenware factory in the town. In the 19th century century, the fame and influence of the "capital of the Center" are strongly linked to the creation of a factory by the great earthenware maker Jean-François Boch. Named “Keramis” (earthen vase in Greek), the earthenware factory was inaugurated on the 1st August 1844. The factory developed over the years and acquired significant notoriety thanks to the imitation of the decors of Delft or Rouen, but especially to Art Deco production. The post-war years were a period of considerable expansion for the company. The company then employed more than 1,500 people and many Belgian households had tableware produced by Boch. However, the earthenware factory slowly declined from the 1980s before being definitively declared bankrupt on April 7, 2011 (source: savoirrelawallonie.wallonie.be).
Among the flagship productions, we can cite:
- the first pieces dating from the mid-19th century with blue or black monochrome printing decoration
- polychrome pieces with impressions enhanced with colors from 1860
-
white earthenware, sometimes with patterns cast in relief (Pont-aux-Choux style), from 1844 to 1870
-
copies of old earthenware during the latter part of the 19th century, in particular imitations of decorations from Delft or Rouen, hand painted, from 1870 to 1892: this is the case of this beautiful dish
-
Art Deco productions during the interwar period, under the direction of Charles Catteau (from 1906 to 1954).
The brand L (La Louvière), B (Boch) K (Keramis) attests to this. There is also a 3 and a D hollowed out.
It is a fine 19th century earthenware inspired by an 18th century motif. It must therefore date from the period 1870-1892.
The marli has a slight braided relief. It is in good condition, with no gaps or cracks. Note: some small signs of wear mainly on the back (see photos).
It will mix nicely with another blue and white service, make a beautiful presentation plate, or complete a collection.
Dimensions: diameter 26.6 cm, height 3.1 cm, weight 560 g.
