Beautiful and rare Danish brooch by Niels Erik From, in the Skønvirke "fish design" style, made of sterling silver and rose quartz, dating from the 1950s.
Niels Erik From (1908—1982) is considered one of the great names in Danish jewelry and his pieces are highly sought after.
NE From began working as a silversmith in 1931 and registered his silversmithy in Nakskov , in southern Denmark, in 1944.
His early pieces were developed from the organic Skønvirke style , a Scandinavian development of the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements. They are characterized by floral and foliage motifs, as well as other inspirations from nature, such as the "fish design" found here...
The mark “STERLING DENMARK NE FROM 925 S” that appears here was used from the 1950s onwards. It is affixed to both modernist pieces and to pieces from the earlier Skønvirke style (1900-1925) that From continued to produce because they were very popular alongside modernist pieces.
In 1960, From's son-in-law, Hilmer Jensen, joined the company and succeeded From after his death in 1982. However, the company no longer prospered and closed in 1990 (source: https://www.inglenookery.com).

The brooch offered is made of 925 sterling silver. The fish design motif consists of stars and bubbles interspersed with 4 stylized fish with large eyes in an open frame. A beautiful rose quartz cabochon is set asymmetrically in the brooch, which is fitted with a small safety clasp.
The brooch is signed "STERLING DENMARK NE FROM 925S": see photo.
Dimensions: the brooch is 4 cm in diameter, the rose quartz stone is 2.3 cm. Weight: 16 g.
The brooch is in excellent condition (only the pin is no longer completely straight: see photo, but this does not affect it).
