Large old Cameo brooch, which can also be worn as a pendant, engraved on shell and set in finely carved vermeil (gilded silver). There is an illegible inscription (name and date?, goldsmith?) engraved on the back on the border. No other hallmark, but tested silver. Small safety clasp. Period: late 19th-early 20th century.
The young woman represented, in the Belle Epoque or Victorian style, is of great finesse and the brooch is in excellent condition.
