Superb "Ballerina" brooch in solid silver cast in 1948 by Birmingham silversmith Frederick Massingham for art jewelers DH Phillips of London .
This brooch is part of the "Ballerina" series created by the artist from the late 40s which featured ballet dancers (a single ballerina or a couple).
Examples of Frederick Massingham's creations are exhibited in the jewelry section of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
This is a very pretty, very feminine brooch, which will appeal particularly to a dancer but not only! Degas lovers will also adore this lovely ballerina brooch.
It comes in 3 sizes, this is the largest and it is a rare piece. It is cast sterling silver and hallmarked on the reverse. It has the following hallmarks: on the back: REG. DES. APP. N°847735 and DHP; on the arm: C220X/6796. DHP means it was assayed for silver in Birmingham by DH Phillips, the letter Y means it dates from 1948 and N°847735 is the design registration number.
Equipped with a safety chain, it is in excellent condition!
