Stunning solid silver "Ballerina" brooch cast in 1948 by Birmingham silversmith Frederick Massingham for DH Phillips art jewelers of London .
This brooch is part of the "Ballerina" series created by the artist from the end of the 1940s which featured ballet dancers (a single ballerina or a couple).
Examples of Frederick Massingham's designs are displayed in the jewelery section of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

It exists in 3 sizes, this one is the largest and it is a rare piece. It is cast in sterling silver and hallmarked on the reverse. It has the following hallmarks: on the back: REG. OF THE. APP. No. 847735 and DHP; on arm: C220X/6796. DHP means it was assayed for silver in Birmingham by DH Phillips, the letter Y it dates from 1948 and No. 847735 is the model registration number.
Equipped with a safety chain, it is in excellent condition!
