Charming small clamshell vanity mirror, made of ivory-colored celluloid. The original interior mirror shows beautiful cracks, a testament to its age. A refined accessory, evidence of feminine elegance from the Belle Époque.
The slightly shiny, ivory-like surface and the material's fineness, with its typical patina and a metallic fixing pin, are characteristic of celluloid. This material was used from 1880 until the 1930s in the manufacture of elegant small objects: combs, cases, mirrors, etc.
The sober and functional style, the lack of decoration, and the pivoting clamshell mirror are typical of the Belle Époque or the Edwardian era. The cracks in the mirror's silvering are also consistent with an object over a hundred years old.
This lovely object is in good general condition with some pitting and lines in the mirror due to age, but these do not detract from its vintage charm.
It can serve as a collector's item or display piece, or be used provided it is slipped into a small protective velvet or felt pouch, for example (not included).
