Charming small antique purse, typical of Belle Époque vacation souvenirs. It is adorned with two iridescent mother-of-pearl plaques, with soft and luminous reflections. On one side, a refined engraving indicates Dives Cabourg, two renowned seaside resorts in Normandy, very popular at the end of the 19th century.
For the record, Cabourg (called Balbec from the 2nd volume of "In Search of Lost Time") is inextricably linked to Marcel Proust, who spent many summers there in the Grand Hotel. This Palace still exists and has sanctified the writer's room on the 4th floor, which I had the opportunity to visit.
This precious purse features a double-ball clasp, made of patinated silver-plated metal, which is still functional. The interior is lined with original navy blue fabric, with three gusseted compartments, slightly worn but full of charm.
