Superb antique silver and gold brooch, delicately set with small rose-cut diamonds. Its elongated and openwork motif is organized around a central floral decoration, typical of late 18th-century jewelry.
The setting features the traditional technique of antique jewelry: the diamonds are set in silver to enhance their brilliance, while the reverse is in gold to protect the skin from metal oxidation.
The small, irregular, and luminous rose-cut diamonds were hand-cut using ancient methods. They offer a soft and warm sparkle, very different from that of modern cuts.
This brooch was originally meant to be set with 29 diamonds. It now retains 24; five small stones are missing, which does not detract from its charm and simply testifies to its great age.
Its antique clasp system with a tubular hinge and simple hook is consistent with a late 18th or very early 19th-century manufacture.
