Charming small frame depicting 3 small dogs.
🐶 The subject:
Three puppies, each with a different expression and posture, in a so vintage style. The little black one with the bone in its mouth seems a bit mischievous, the one crouching on the left all playful, and the third with its blue bow is irresistibly endearing. This is typical of the sentimental animal illustrations of the early 20th century.
These images were intended to move, to decorate interiors with naive, sweet, and innocent scenes. They were often found in children's rooms, living rooms, and even in shop windows.
🖼️ The frame:
Magnificent old frame with raised plant decoration, in coppery golden tones. It accentuates the precious and nostalgic side of the whole. It could date from the 1920s to 1940s, but the image itself seems to be in a slightly older style, perhaps late 19th / early 20th century, reproduced later.
🎨 The technique:
This is a chromolithograph, very popular at the time. These colorful reproductions were highly appreciated because they allowed for "artistic" images at a low price.
This chromo will greatly appeal to lovers of retro, country chic decoration, and of course, animal lovers 🐾. It has that little air of a family home, of tender childhood memories, which immediately touches the heart.
