Magnificent white porcelain salt or perfume bottle, hand-painted, around 1900, a time when perfumery objects and decorative accessories were true works of art.
This wonderful bottle is painted on the front with a finely executed horse and vegetation motif, the back is white. The outline is enhanced with a small gilded line. It features a hinged silver-plated metal stopper that opens to reveal a charming small, perfectly intact pointed stopper also made of white porcelain. This double system suggests not only an aesthetic dimension but also a practical function, probably intended to carefully preserve a perfume or smelling salts.
The finely represented horse, surrounded by delicate vegetation, gives the bottle a particular charm. This type of motif is quite refined and can recall, depending on the interpretation, either romantic inspirations or the beginnings of Art Nouveau, where nature and movement were celebrated.
This pretty bottle is probably of English origin.
Below there is a pencil inscription that I could not decipher and the number 90.
This charming bottle is in excellent condition (please note some wear to the gilding of the border on the top and oxidation of the metal at the base of the stopper).
