🎲 Bakelite roulette games – retro casino atmosphere! 🎲
Two lovely small bakelite roulette games, straight from the 1930s-50s, to recreate the hushed atmosphere of a pocket casino. Whether enjoying a drink in an old-fashioned bistro or during a family evening, these mini-roulettes invited people to bet, laugh and dream of fortune.
Discovered in 1909 by Belgian Leo Baekeland, bakelite was the first plastic material to be produced industrially: it revolutionized our daily lives by inaugurating the plastic era. Light, resistant to heat and many chemical products, bakelite is an excellent electrical insulator, which was quickly adopted by the electrical construction industry. This new resin was also at the time the first thermosetting plastic, a property that was exploited for many industrial applications, notably to manufacture radio and telephone housings, as well as jewelry and toys… Thanks to its lacquered appearance, it also became the ideal material for the design of household appliances (source: https://plastic-lemag.com).
🖤 They work with a ball (missing from both, but easily added).
