Very pretty old necklace made up of 58 faceted cut garnets set in solid silver .
Used in jewelry for thousands of years, garnet was considered by the greatest civilizations of our history as one of the most precious gems there is.
We also find this stone set on many necklaces of the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt and as a seal to mark important documents among the Romans.
The name garnet comes from the Latin granatum which means "pomegranate" inspired by the burgundy red color of this fruit and the Greek puropus since garnet was then compared to eyes of fire (source: https://www.gemmyo.com/).
Presence of 2 silver hallmarks on the small closing ring.
Dimensions : 40 cm long with the clasp, 3 mm thick.
In very good shape.
Very charming !
