Magnificent old round serving dish in fine English porcelain by Copeland Spode, Italian pattern.
This dish was made in England in 1923 (see the hollow stamp). This stunning Copeland piece features a pattern dating back to the 18th century, which encompasses a scene inspired by the Italian countryside in the signature blue and white of the Spode collection made in England.
This Italian blue pattern was created in 1816 and is based on themes from ancient Italy, blended from a selection of architecture and landscapes from local regions of the time. The border is inspired by Japanese Imari porcelain.
This corresponds to the spirit of the Grand Tour which brought mainly young men, but sometimes also young girls from the highest classes of British, German, but also French, Dutch, Polish, Scandinavian, later Russian from the 1760s, and American society since the second half of the 18th century. , to take a long trip to “Europe” .
