Before the invention of self-consuming wicks in the 19th century, candle maintenance was a daily task. Wicks had to be regularly trimmed to prevent smoke and ensure a clean flame. Snuffers, like this one, were an essential tool found on tables, mantels, or in lighting kits.
This model features an elegant and functional design: the scissors cut the wick while the small integrated receptacle collects the burnt part. The tapered tip allowed access to the wick at the heart of the flame without extinguishing the candle.
