Amazing old wooden shuttle for mending fishing nets accompanied by its metal needle.
This is a very beautiful, finely crafted wooden object. On either side, a thin cord is wound. It is a common object that has practically disappeared today. This is a needle for repairing fishing nets, also called a "mending shuttle". It was mainly found by the sea; it is one of those “small marine objects” used on a daily basis by “sea workers”. Generally, they were used by men but also sometimes by women to repair (repair) fishing nets. The mending work was mainly done at the port on the quays, but also sometimes on board the boats. To mend a net is to repair its meshes, to mend it (source: Le Blog Antiquités).
In good state of conservation.
This unusual object will particularly suit collectors of old fishing articles or lovers of cabinets of curiosities!
