Pretty pot with vintage floral decoration and its lid in English Staffordshire porcelain, signed Old Foley, James Kent LTD.

The Old Foley Company, Longton, was founded by James Aloysius Kent (born 1864 – died 1953) with five workers from the Barker & Kent firm in 1897. James was joined in the business by his four sons. James Kent became a limited company in 1913. When James died in 1953, his second son, Philip Francis Kent, succeeded him as president. The company remained a family business until 1981, when it was purchased by Bayer (UK) Ltd. [Bayer is a German multinational chemical and pharmaceutical company]. In 1985/86 the business was taken over by potter and engineer Morris Rushton and in 1987 the business became part of County Potteries PLC. In 1989 County Potteries was renamed Carlton & Kent (named after Carlton Ware and James Kent who owned the company). During the same year Carlton & Kent went into receivership and the James Kent portion was purchased by MR Hadida Ltd., owner of Hadida Fine Bone China Ltd. The company was renamed James Kent (1989) Ltd. Around 1995 Wedgwood sold the Foley China Works buildings to James Kent who operated the adjacent Old Foley Pottery. The old Foley Pottery was demolished around 2006 and the company operated out of Foley China Works. Around 2008 the company closed and in 2010 Foley China Works was demolished (source: https://www-thepotteries-org).

The object presented dates from +/- 1955 (see photo) and is in good general condition (2 tiny losses on the underside of the pot, see photo).

It can be used for many purposes: putting treats in it, slipping cotton balls into it in the bathroom or simply adding a romantic touch to your decor.
